Tara, I love this idea. Once upon a time when I thought I had a weeeee bit more margin in my days I wanted to begin 2025 posting one poem per week on my 'Stack and say, "Hey, look at this poem that's now in the Public Domain!" 'cause I discovered there's a new list every year.

Anyway, I've just subscribed and will give this a shot--inspiration abounds--thank you!

Jody, welcome! I love that you were thinking about public domain poems at the same time I was. Do you know where I can find that list of newly announced public domain poems? I'm planning a bit of a break once we reach the end of "Travel," but I'm on the lookout for our next poem.

ahhhh.... well, no I couldn't find a list of newly announced poems for 2025, only if you type in the name of the poem you're thinking of and the words 'public domain' it might show up???

Travel, hm? How about this one by Edna St. Vincent Millay?

Hi Tara, this looks great. I haven’t quite decided if I’ll participate, for personal reasons, but it’s brilliant that you’re doing this. Folk are going to love it, I’m sure. Incidentally, continuing our previous discussion of how creativity is the “product of labor and sweat”, as you know, I agree. But I’ve had another thought, too, or caveat. It’s that, despite hard work, creativity may be beyond the (deeply) depressed. In that sense, I’m inclined to think that “inspiration” is a sign of health. Yes, it needs hard work; but that work can only happen on the basis of a mind ready for it. (Apologies for this ramble: it’s just that I’ve been thinking about this topic on and off, and since you do too, I thought I’d share the thoughts...🙂)

Thomas, obviously, I'd be delighted to have you on board for this little poetry excursion. But I understand completely needing to guard your time and energy for the important stuff. That said, I consider this a no-rules endeavor. Drop in for a week, ignore the next three. Whatever works, you're always welcome. And YES, YES, YES to your excellent points re: depression, inspiration as a sign of health. You are absolutely right that the ability to hunker down and do the work relies upon a mind and spirit being sufficiently rested/healed/ready for it. Such a delicate balance, and a bit of a chicken-or-the-egg situation. Is that inspiration burning through the fog, or is the thinning fog a sign of a healthy mental state, letting you see the sun.

Thanks, Tara, for your hospitality; I may very well drop in, as you suggest - and knowing me, I may well find myself poetically addicted! So glad, too, my comments on inspiration make sense. It makes me realise how important it is to try out one’s thoughts with like-minded poets - otherwise, I worry it’s just crazy thoughts knocking about in my odd brain. So again, thank you - and if you ever want to try out a thought that’s knocking around, please don’t hesitate to use me as a sounding board! 🙂
